Fall Events

Thursday, November 29
UTK CMENC Meeting
Current Student Teacher Panel

They suggest: Be prepared and plan well; Maintain authority figure stature; Be prepared for paper work – always be prepared with paper work for administration; IEP – Individual Education Plan; lessons for students with special cases; Prepare and plan for students with 504’s and Special education students; Be authoritative – don’t let students push your buttons; Students will sometimes have motives to disrupt a rehearsal; deal with it in a timely & proper manner; Elementary students need more attention on basic musical elements; incorporate more light hearted instruction (add silly & goofy ways of participation & instruction); Choosing literature will depend on the age you are teaching and the time of year (Marching Band, Christmas, Spring Concert, etc.); Be sensitive to other religions when choosing literature if you are dealing with students who have differing beliefs; If parents wish to talk to you, schedule an appointment to allow yourself time to prepare for the meeting and the parent to calm down & think through what they want to say; Enjoy those moments with students where success is achieved; The most rewarding aspect of teaching is the students’ enjoyment in what they learn in your class
